DanceArts Celebrates National Dance Day

If you love to dance, then don’t miss the action at DanceArts Studio on July 31 between 10:00 and 2:00 for “National Dance Day”.  Nigel Lythgoe, a judge and executive producer for the hit show, So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD), is launching National Dance Day as part of his commitment to support dance education and physical fitness in the United States.  In keeping with Lythgoe’s goals, DanceArts Studio is planning a day with a variety of dance activities, such as a Monkeynastix demo, classes on the National Dance Day Dance choreography, a Street Dance outside and a live remote with KLAZ 105.9, to help generate an awareness for dance and provide an environment where anyone can feel comfortable grooving to some great music.  Because National Dance Day is a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation to move, DanceArts wants to provide an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the occasion and spread their passion for the art.  Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness nationwide.
Teachers from DanceArts have taken classes from SYTYCD judges and choreographers.  Susannah Baxter, owner of DanceArts and member of the Southern Association of Dance Masters,  studied numerous summers under Mia Michaels through Tremaine Dance Conventions.   “Mia is an amazing teacher.  We left her classes as better dancers, full of inspiration, looking forward to her classes every summer.  I feel blessed as a dancer and teacher, having had those opportunities” says Baxter.  James Williams, a Hip-Hop teacher at DanceArts, studied for 5 years under Shane Sparks, a choreographer for SYTYCD and judge on America’s Best Dance Crew.
On July 31 from 10:00 to 2:00, DanceArts Studio will provide a series of activities open to the public for everyone to enjoy.  10:00 – Monkeynastix Demo class, 10:30 Coloring contest and story time ( 3-10 yrs.)  11:00 Nat’l Dance Day Dance Class (8-adult)  12:00 Street Dance outside with KLAZ!
Pieter and Lorrain De Haas from Monkeynastix will be providing a free demo for ages 3-8 years old.  Monkeynastix combines creativity, music and storytelling with basic training in flexibility, balance, strength, agility, co-ordination and body awareness.  Visit www.monkeynastix.biz to find out more information about the program.  A coloring contest and story time with Angelina Ballerina will be offered for ages 10 and under. Drawings for prizes, including 1 month of free dance lessons, will go on through the day.
DanceArts wants to invite all ages, parents and children alike, to take part in the “Street Dance” and live KLAZ broadcast from 11:00 – 1:00.  The National Dance Day routine choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo (NappyTabs, Inc.) from SYTYCD will be taught by DanceArts staff and performed by everyone outside.   With an outlet for free style dancing, passerbys will know that the city of Hot Springs loves to dance and wants to share their passion with the nation!
As Lythgoe has stated, the goal of National Dance Day is to “prove that the ‘Power of Dance’ can MOVE an entire Country!”  We are starting in Hot Springs!
